Handicrafts & Shopping

In the middle of the Lofoten Islands, caught between steep, rugged mountains and the Arctic Ocean, you find the village of Vikten and the artist couple Aase and Aasvar Tangrand.

As the first one in northern Norway, Aasvar started his glassblowing career in 1977. In the Pottery Tower Aase is in control, making magic with clay, creating handcrafted articles.

The Pottery Tower and the Glass Blower's Hut are both open to the public throughout the summer. Special arrangements on request.

Lofoten Design

Engelskmannsbrygga (Englishman's Hamlet) is a workshop and sales outlet run by photographer John Stenersen and his wife Cecilie Haaland, together with three glassblowers. Cecilie Haaland, who is a ceramist, also uses photographs in combination with ceramics, constantly developing this combined technique in her handicraft. Worth a visit!
